Our Legislative Priorities
1 Protect Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity
• Defend and expand civil rights protections so every person is treated with dignity and fairness, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socioeconomic background.
• Oppose discrimination in employment, housing, education, healthcare, and public accommodations.
2 Champion LGBTQ+ Equality and Gender Freedom
• Support policies that affirm the dignity, safety, and autonomy of LGBTQ+ people.
• Advocate for access to evidence-based, medically appropriate gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth and adults, consistent with accepted medical standards and in partnership with families and healthcare providers.
• Support inclusive school policies that respect students' gender identities, including participation in school activities and athletics consistent with those identities.
3 Advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
• Promote policies and practices that expand opportunity, address systemic barriers, and ensure institutions are welcoming and accessible to people from all backgrounds.
• Encourage equitable representation and inclusive decision-making across public and private institutions.
4 Build Strong, Healthy Communities
• Invest in affordable healthcare, quality public education, accessible mental health services, workers' rights, and economic opportunity.
• Support evidence-based public policies that strengthen families and improve quality of life throughout Midwestern communities.
5 Strengthen Democracy and Civic Engagement
• Protect voting rights, increase civic participation, promote transparent and accountable government, and encourage respectful public dialogue.
• Empower local communities to shape policies that reflect shared values of fairness, inclusion, and opportunity.
